I have been researching my line for about 20 years. My focus has been on the surnames Poplin, Straw and Colby. This site is to share my work and the work others have shared with me. I have included over 4500 individuals and over 800 images. If there is a record or photograph, it will be listed as a link through each person's page. The People and Record galleries are just a sampling of the 800 images on file. Please keep in mind I have displayed minimal information and no dates on the living.
To create this site, I downloaded my ancestry.com file into FTM 2012, deleted the ancestry.com images within FTM 2012, exported this to a FTM 2009 file format, deleted about 600 duplicate images that FTM 2009 imported, imported this file into The Master Genealogist, and finally created the site with Second Site using the TMG database. Since this is such an involved and time consuming process, I am unable to keep this site updated other than making data corrections. My current and working file will remain on ancestry.com. If you have an ancestry account, please visit my ancestry.com site. I have over 1500 images, book citations, and vital records posted there. Many of these images can not be posted on this site as they are ancestry.com images.
This tree includes maternal and paternal ancestors for my children. Ancestors that are related even very distantly to either family line have a two-tier descendant icon in front of their name. Also included are individuals that are not connected to this line but are associated in some way. For instance, there is definitely a second "Poplin" line and I have listed significant data on this. Visit Richard Rufus Poplin of this line to view the issues of Poplin Patter that he sent me. There is also a Jesse Poplin line that lived in the Bear Creek area of Stanly County, North Carolina that is not related to Poplin line. According to David Kirk in his publication "Tombstone Records of Stanly County, North Carolina, Albemarle, North Carolina", this family changed their last name from something like Popovitch to Poplin. There are many "Poplin" documents that include too many names to associate individually such as the Stanly Couty Marriages. These are posted under George Poplin (b1720). Finally, my grandfather, Homer W. Burns has a very interesting line which includes links to Straw, Colby, all but 3 of the First Settlers of Amesbury, Massachusetts and very distantly John Bourchier, Earl of Bath and Myles Standish, one of the Mayflower Pilgrams.
